Install the coach app and the client app on the same device
QuickCoach has two separate apps: one for you, one for your clients. Here's how to install both on the same phone or tablet, side by side.
Why two apps?
Your coach app and your clients' app are different progressive web apps. Installing both on the same device lets you build plans and check in on your work, then switch to the client view to see exactly what your clients see. Coaches who train in person, or who use a demo account to test the experience, often want both on the same phone.
Neither app is on the App Store or Play Store. Both install straight from the browser, so the steps below are all you need.
Before you start
On Android, install order matters. Install your client app before your coach app. If you reverse the order the wrong app can open when you tap a link. If that has already happened, uninstall the coach app, install the client app, then reinstall the coach app.
On iPhone and iPad, order doesn't matter, but use Safari for both installs.
Step 1: Install the coach app
The coach app lives at app.quickcoach.fit. Install it first on iPhone or after the client app on Android.
iPhone or iPad
- Open app.quickcoach.fit in Safari.
- Tap the Share icon (the square with an upward arrow) in Safari's bottom toolbar.
- Tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The coach app icon appears on your home screen.
Android
- Open app.quickcoach.fit in Chrome, Brave or Samsung Internet.
- Tap the three dots to open the browser menu.
- Tap Add to Home screen, then follow the install prompts.
For the full coach app walkthrough, including Windows and Mac installs, see installing the coach app.
Step 2: Install the client app
The client app opens from a unique account link, not a general URL. You need a client account link to install it. The easiest way to test the client experience is to use the demo client QuickCoach creates for you automatically. Open your Clients page and look for the account listed under your own name. Copy that client's link, then follow the steps below.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the client account link in Safari.
- Tap the Share icon in Safari's bottom toolbar.
- Tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The client app icon appears on your home screen.
Android
- Open the client account link in Chrome, Brave or Samsung Internet.
- Tap Install on the banner that appears, or tap the three dots and choose Add to Home screen.
- Follow the prompts. The app lands on your home screen.
For the full client app walkthrough, including what to do when the install prompt doesn't appear, see how clients install their app.
Telling the two apps apart
Once both are installed, each gets its own icon on your home screen. The coach app always uses the standard QuickCoach look. The client app shows your custom branding on Pro, or the QuickCoach default on Free.
If a device has more than one QuickCoach app installed, the name of a later install gains extra text, such as AppName-YourUsername-ClientName. That's expected. You can rename it to anything you like by pressing and holding the icon on Android, or by editing the name during the "Add to Home Screen" step on iPhone.
Push notifications on each app
Push notifications are set up separately for each app. For the coach app, see your Notification Center and to-do list. For the client app, see client notifications.
Push alerts on iPhone and iPad need iOS 16.4 or later for both apps. The apps themselves install on iOS 11.3 or later, but the banner alerts need the newer OS.
Device requirements
- iPhone or iPad: Safari, iOS 11.3 or later to install. iOS 16.4 or later for push notifications.
- Android: Chrome, Samsung Internet or Brave, Android 4.4 or later with Play Services.
Frequently asked questions
Can I install a client app for more than one client on the same device?
Yes. Repeat the client install steps with each client's account link. Each install gets its own icon. The name gains extra text to distinguish them, and you can rename each one.
Do clients have to install the app?
No. Clients can use everything in the browser without installing. The only thing they miss out on is banner push alerts. Every message still arrives in their Notification Center.
My client app is opening instead of the coach app when I tap a link. What do I do?
On Android this usually means the apps were installed in the wrong order. Uninstall the coach app, make sure the client app is installed, then reinstall the coach app.
Why can't I find QuickCoach in the App Store or Play Store?
QuickCoach is a progressive web app that installs from the browser on purpose. There is no App Store or Play Store listing for either app.
