Build a multi-week program in QuickCoach
Structure a repeating program across multiple weeks using Program Templates and bulk duplication, without rebuilding every session from scratch.
How QuickCoach handles weekly repetition
There is no scheduling calendar in QuickCoach. Clients work through plans in the order you arrange them, doing whatever is next each time they train. That means the order you put plans in is the schedule, and naming plans by week and day (Week 1 Day 1, Week 1 Day 2, and so on) is how you add structure.
For a program where the same sessions repeat week to week with small changes, the workflow is:
- Build week one inside a Program Template.
- Duplicate those plans in bulk for each subsequent week.
- Rename each copy to reflect its week.
- Adjust intensity, volume or any other details that change.
- Assign the whole template to your client in one go.
Each step is covered below. If you want to see the full build in action first, the build-along program template tutorial walks through a complete four-week program from start to finish.
Step 1: Build week one in a Program Template
A Program Template is a reusable folder that holds a set of plans. Build your week-one sessions here so you can duplicate them without starting from scratch each week.
- Click the lightning bolt icon in the left navigation to open your Plans Drafts and Program Templates page.
- Click the Program Templates tab, then click Create a template.
- Name the template (for example, "4-Week Power Block") and click Create template.
- Open the new template and click Create a plan to build your first session.
- Name it clearly: Week 1 Day 1, Week 1 Day 2, and so on.
- Add your tasks, variables, headings, supersets and plan notes as normal. The plan builder tour covers every control.
- Click Publish plan when each session is ready. Published plans move to the template's Ready Plans section.
Repeat until all of your week-one sessions are published and sitting in Ready Plans.
Important: Build each task in full before you move on. If you edit a task after it has been added to a plan, the change only applies going forward. Plans already using that task keep the version they were built with.
Step 2: Duplicate week one in bulk
Once week one is complete, duplicating it for subsequent weeks takes a few clicks rather than a full rebuild.
- Inside the template, click Select All to tick every Ready plan, or tick only the ones you want to copy.
- Click the copy icon at the top of the list.
- Confirm when prompted. The copies land in the template's Draft Plans section.
Repeat this for each additional week you need. For a four-week program with four sessions per week, you build four plans once, then copy them three more times to end up with sixteen plans in total.
Tip: If you cannot see all your drafts, increase the Rows per page count using the dropdown at the bottom of the list.
Step 3: Rename each copy by week
Every copy starts with the same name as its source plan. Rename them before publishing so your client sees clear week labels.
- In the Draft Plans section, click the pencil icon next to a plan's name.
- Type the new name, for example Week 2 Day 1.
- Click the save icon.
Work through every draft until all copies have their correct week and day label.
Step 4: Adjust intensity or volume
Once renamed, open each draft with the edit icon (the pencil that opens the full plan builder) and make the changes for that week. For a progressive overload block you might only need to update the weight, sets or RPE on a handful of tasks. Everything else stays identical to the original.
When you are done editing a draft, click Publish plan. It moves to Ready Plans. Work through every draft until all sixteen plans are published and ready.
Step 5: Assign the full template to a client
With all plans in Ready Plans, you can send the entire program to a client in one action.
- Go back to the Program Templates page (the lightning bolt icon).
- Click the three dots on your template card and choose Assign to Client.
- Search for and select the client, then click Assign to client(s).
Every Ready plan lands straight in the client's Upcoming (Published) tab, in the order they sit in the template. The client works through them one by one on a what-comes-next basis.
If you want to tailor individual plans before the client sees them, assign from inside the template instead (tick the plans and click the assign icon). Those plans land in the client's Drafts tab, which clients cannot see, so you can edit and publish them one by one. The full breakdown of both routes is in assigning plans to clients.
Reorder plans after assigning
Plans are assigned in template order, but you can rearrange them on the client's side at any time. Open the client's Upcoming (Published) tab and drag plans into the order you want using the three-line handle on each row. Changes take effect immediately on the client's side. See seeing a client's plans by status for the reordering walkthrough.
Reuse the template with future clients
Because assigning always creates a copy, your template stays untouched. Run the same program with the next client by repeating the assign step. The original sixteen plans remain in Ready Plans, ready to go again.
Frequently asked questions
How many plans can a template hold?
Up to 99 Program Templates, each with up to 100 plans per page. We recommend staying at or under 100 plans per template, because you cannot move a plan across pages if you go over that limit. A 16-plan four-week program is well within range. See Program Templates and Plans Drafts for the full limits.
If I update the template later, do assigned clients get the changes?
No. Assigning creates a copy, so edits to the template do not affect plans already sitting in a client's account. Edit the client's plans directly if you need to change something after assigning.
Can I copy plans across to a different template or client?
Yes. Use the Copy To button inside the plan builder to send a plan to any template or client on your roster. Copying, duplicating and repeating plans covers every route.
What if the client needs to repeat the same week twice?
Duplicate that week's plans one more time and name the copies accordingly (for example, Week 2 Repeat Day 1). A submitted plan cannot be reopened or reused, so repetition always means copies.
Is there a faster way to build if my weeks are almost identical?
Yes. Build the first week's sessions with all your standard structure, headings, supersets and task notes in place. Then duplicate the lot and only touch the numbers that change week to week. The copying plans guide and the build-along tutorial both demonstrate this approach.
